IGSG – Indo German Friendship Society Goa and LSG – Lusophone Society of Goa, in collaboration with the Goa State Central Library, organized a visit to a Konkani tiatr at Kala Academy in Panjim on February 21, 2020.
The Konkani word “tiatr” has its origin in the Portuguese word “teatro” (theatre).
Dr. Carlos Fernandes, director of the Goa State Central Library kindly gave our visiting group a brief description of the traditional and very popular Tiatr, which took birth in Bombay in 19th century and continues very much alive till today. Our group was welcomed by Mr. Tomazinho Cardozo, first president of the Tiatr Academy of Goa, a government body. After this we enjoyed the Tiatr play “OXEIM GHODDOM IETA” written by Tomazinho Cardozo and staged with very interesting songs by Kala Mogi from Candolim.
